On last night’s episode of Project Runway All Stars, we bid farewell to Andrae after his panel design failed to live up to the judges’ expectations for the interactive fan challenge. Keep reading to find out what Andrae had to say about his elimination.
The judges had narrowed the designers to two, Andrae and Joshua. “I’m standing there waiting to hear what they have to say,” Andrae said, “And I’m thinking, oh boy, here we are again.”
Andrae was chosen last to select his picture for the challenge. “It is always, always difficult to be chosen last.” He explained, “I was profoundly lonely and I know that sounds really crazy because people literally come on to competition shows like this and say, I didn’t come here to make friends.”
However, Andrae made a few friends and he’s sad to leave them. “I’ll miss Althea and I’ll miss Uli.” He added, “And I’d love to hang out with Emilio too but I think I irritated him a little bit.” He explained, “All of my life I’ve been kind of a goofball and it was strange how it seemed to alienate me from people in this arena.”
When all was said and done, Andrae said, “I didn’t feel like I could have done anything differently.” He added, “I am ready to go home. This was fun – no – this was eye opening. It’s an unbelievable prize and it’s eye-opening to see how that affects the way people behave.”
While he felt alienated and lonely alongside the other designers, Andrae felt differently about the judges. “I always felt treated as a fellow designer and that made this experience really, really gratifying.”
Andrae said his elimination “was like being convicted of a crime in a tribe that’s not your own, like being in a different civilization where what you do is wrong, but it’s not for the society that you come from.” He adds, “But you can’t please all the people all of the time.”
What did you think of Andrae’s design? Do you think the judges made the right decision sending him home? Or do you think another design was worse than Andrae’s? Post a comment below and let us know what you think.
