Amazing Race contestant, Jaymes Vaughan hopes to win the race and take home the $1 million dollar prize. But Vaughan doesn’t want to win for himself; he wants to win so he can help his father who is battling incurable cancer.
According to People, Jaymes Vaughan and teammate, fellow Chippendales dancer, James Davis paired up for the race and if they win, they have a special plan for the money. Vaughan explained, “I found out my father was diagnosed with one of the rarest cancers that there is,” shortly before the competition was to begin. “At this point it’s an incurable cancer, and we’re trying to do everything we can to help him turn it into a curable cancer.”
Vaughan wants to do anything he can to help support his father through this difficult battle. He said, “The best way to do that is to give him financial support,” so he can concentrate on getting better, “to be able to say, ‘Hey, here’s a house that’s paid for, here’s your bills paid for, here’s all your medical expenses paid for. You just get better.’ There’s no better way to do that than with a million dollars.”
Vaughan’s teammate adds, “We’re fortunate enough that we are young, we can work,” and if need be, “we can work doubles” so “we can send checks home, we can take care of the folks.”
While $1 million dollars would be nice for anyone to have, Vaughan explained, “We don’t need a million dollars right now, but we have parents who do.” Vaughan wants to give back and help his father in any way he can. He’s even created a website FORGETCANCERNOW.com to help raise money. “My Dad always told me I could do anything I wanted. He encouraged me and made me feel like the world was mine to conquer.” He added, “Now he is battling one of the rarest forms of cancer in the world, and he needs help to conquer it.”
Our hearts and prayers go out to Vaughan and his family during this difficult time.
