Nicki Minaj scared away from the spotlight by the ever negative critics? It’s not about to happen any time soon, or at least, that’s what the singer, rapper and American Idol judge tells MTV. Nicki is positive that she’ll receive plenty of hate over Re-Up, her latest album, but she’s confident in her ability to deliver a memorable performance in the midst of all that criticism.
Oh Nicki Minaj…the singer-rapper always manages to give us something to talk about, be it her latest hairdo or her crazy antics on American Idol. But right now, the majority of the attention is focused on Nicki’s new album. Nicki acknowledes that she received a ton of criticism in response to te number of pop hits on the earlier released Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, but says that Re-Up will feature more of the hard-hitting rap that attracter early fans in the fist place.
You’d think Nicki might be worried about getting even more criticism for her return to rap, but this is not the case. In a recent interview, she told MTV, “Re-Up is what I do naturally. It’s what I came into the game doing. So I actually don’t have the fears about it being critiqued. I guess when I started doing dance songs, then there was more like a question mark there, ’cause I had never done it. But the songs I’m doing on the Re-Up…When people hear it, they will hear stuff that Nicki Minaj has already mastered. I don’t need approval on that.”
She may be returning to more familiar territory, but don’t expect Nicki to stop taking risks. In her opinion, thoses risks are what makes an aspiring artist great. “Most artists in this business are so petrified of thinking outside of the box that they will remain in one little box for their whole careers. And to each his own, but I feel like as women, we gotta dare to be different.”
We think that Nicki Minaj has the ‘different part’ down pat!
