Miley Cyrus spent her birthday raking in cash donations from the legions of adoring fans. But no worries — the Punk’d alum has no plans to spend the money on herself! Before the big day, Miley asked her fans to not send any gifts this year, instead directing them to a few of her favorite charities.
It’s hard to believe that Miley Cyrus has hit two decades! But we’re glad to see that she took a little time out of the big day to shed a little light on several very important causes.
After learning of all the generous donations fans had sent in honor of her birthday, Miley took to Twitter to express her gratitude. “Thank you to all my fans who donated to starkey hearing spot rescue dogs for my birthday. y’all topped it again best bday present by far!”
Miley forgot one other generous donation in her thank you tweet. In recognition of the celeb’s many contributions to animal rights, PETA adopted a pig named Nora. A spokesperson explained the reasoning behind the adoption in the following statement: “PETA knew that sponsoring a rescued pig was the perfect birthday present for a young woman who spends so much time encouraging others to help animals,” Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman explained. “From promoting animal adoption to speaking up for cows who suffer on dairy farms, Miley never stops letting her millions of fans know what they can do to make the world a kinder place.”
We occasionally (okay, quite frequently) make fun of Miley Cyrus, but really, it is great to see a young star with such a spirit of philanthropy — and a fan base so dedicated to helping those in need!
