American Idol Season 12 hasn’t even premiered yet and yet everyone is talking about Nicki Minaj judging Idol, including ex American Idol judge Steven Tyler. What did Steven say about Nicki that got her so fired up she accused him of being racist and claimed that he was fired from Idol?
In an interview with MTV, Steven slammed the on-set fighting between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey and said the following about judging American Idol: “You just have to give your opinion…These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death; you’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!”
This remark did not please Nicki. She took to Twitter (where else?) to voice her very heated opinion. First @NickiMinaj tweeted, “Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!” A valid point. She continues, “I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment” and “You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? Why? Black? Rapper?”
Nicki concluded her Twitter diatribe by writing: “LOL lets make him a shirt that says ‘No Coloreds Allowed’ then escort him down to Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened with guns.” Well, all right! Props to Nicki for being able to get in a Mariah Carey insult while still talking smack about Steven.
What do you think about Nicki’s fight with Steven? Should Nicki have called Steven racist? Do you think Nicki was telling the truth that Steven Tyler was let go from Idol?
