The X Factor judge, Britney Spears may have thought her days of dealing with ex-husband Kevin Federline were over following their divorce in 2006, but alas, they’re not. Thanks to some unpaid taxes dating back to 2004, which by the way is the same year they tied the knot, the two are going to have to come together once again to deal with some unfinished business and tie up loose ends.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Spears and Federline owe the state of California a whopping $37,712.71 in back taxes from 2004. But hey, what’s 37k when you have millions, right? Well, at least that’s the case for Spears especially after landing a gig on The X Factor. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Spears is worth an estimated $200 million. But what about Federline? Does he have the ability to pay his half of the tax bill? While his net worth is substantially lower than Spears’, he is worth $6 million and quite capable of picking up his share of the tab.
The California Franchise Tax Board has slapped a lien against the former couple in an effort to collect but a source close to Spears said, “The lien was filed in error and will be rectified soon.”
If the lien is truly a clerical error, that’s good news for Spears and Federline in a couple different ways. Not only will they not have to part with any of their fortunes but they will also not have to come together to sort out the mess.
After all, both Spears and Federline have moved on romantically following their 2006 divorce. Spears in currently engaged to her ex-agent and co-star, Jason Trawick. And while Federline hasn’t popped the question to anyone since moving on from Spears, he has had numerous short-lived romantic encounters.
