Last month, we learned that former American Idol guest judge; Shania Twain had landed a two-year headline gig called “Still The One” at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. And after an 8-year absence from the stage, Twain, 47, rocked it out on the show’s opening night Saturday.
According to Yahoo, Twain took to the stage via a flying motorcycle – talk about a grand entrance! We knew it was going to be something spectacular following the 41-horse stampede that marked her arrival in Vegas last month.
Despite Twain’s rather long hiatus from live performances, loyal fans gave her a warm welcome by greeting her with a standing ovation. Twain took the stage in a form-fitting cat suit and thigh high black boots. “This is a very overwhelming night,” she admitted. “I’m so emotional, my eyelashes may fall off! It’s been a lot of years since I’ve been here,” she said taking time to settle herself and thank the audience for coming out to see her.
I guess the old saying, “it’s like riding a bicycle, you never forget how” held true for Twain Saturday night because she never missed a beat during the 100-minute performance. She belted out song after song amid wardrobe changes, two live horses on stage, dancing musicians, and all the theatrics as if she’d never been gone.
Returning to the stage following a devastating divorce from first husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange marks a huge milestone in Twain’s life. Following their separation and divorce, Twain lost all creative ability as well as the ability to sing. She explained in a 2011 interview with Oprah, “I have lost my ability to express myself and my ability to sing.”
But through it all, she didn’t give up. Twain found love again and married Frederic Thiebaud in January 2011. Her newfound love gave her the confidence to take up singing again and after a lot of voice rehabilitation; she’s making a major comeback.
Although taking the stage again was an emotional experience for Twain, she told People she wasn’t nervous, “I’m actually pretty good,” she said, adding that her husband, Thiebaud was her comfort and her rock. “I cannot live without him,” she explained, “I need that support. I just need what we have. It grounds me every day and reminds me that there are a lot of important things going on in the world…he keeps it all in perspective.”
