The voting board for the Grammys are definitely not Beliebers. After the 55th annual Grammy Award nominations were announced on Dec 5th, the X Factor guest star’s name was nowhere to be found. Even though Justin Bieber has had one of the highest selling albums this year, with “Believe”, “As Long As You Love Me”, and “Boyfriend” getting major airplay, the powers that be behind the Grammys just didn’t seem to care.
Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, was particularly offed by the snub, and took to twitter to rant. “This time there won’t be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE. The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one.” Ariana Grande joined the ranks, tweeting “Seeing that Justin Bieber isn’t nominated for a grammy i just feel like doing this. #NoBieberNoGrammys #BieberForGrammy”. The hashtag took off, starting a Twitter feeding frenzy.
Billboard’s Keith Caulfield told E! that there’s much more to the Grammy equation than just numbers. “In the past, the voting demographic has been, in general, older, white and male,” which doesn’t bode well for the Biebs and his Beliebers. “The Rolling Stones had to wait until 1978 to get a nominated, and Britney Spears only recieved one Grammy for Toxic.” Keith also commented on Adele’s Grammy wins, saying “She appeals to everyone, from 8 to 80″—including the types of people who vote for Grammys. It’s the only way she could have sold 10 million copies of a single album in the U.S.”
So while Justin missed out this year, he will probably be in the running for future grammys as his music matures. But we don’t think Justin is too worried about it!
