JCP Ad Offends Moms But They’re ‘Moving On’

December 10, 2012 05:42 AM by Donna W. Martin

Recently we learned that former American Idol judge; Ellen DeGeneres appeared with some elves in a JCPenney Christmas ad. And because Ellen is a lesbian, the ad was not well received by conservative Christian group, One Million Moms who launched a protest against the ad asking JCP to take it down. But now, One Million Moms say they’re moving on. Keep reading to get all the details.

According to The Christian Post, One Million Moms director, Monica Cole issued a statement saying, “We’re not taking action, we’re moving on. We’ve already contacted the company,” Cole explained, who went on to say that One Million Moms does not have any problems with the content of the JCPenney ad, they had a problem with the fact that Ellen DeGeneres appeared in the ad.

Cole goes on to say their call to action in protesting the JCP ad was not “an attack on any one person or company,” but rather “the agenda behind it.” She explained, “With JCPenney viewed as a family store, many have found its embrace of a non-traditional family lifestyle offensive,” and noted that JCP had run other controversial ad campaigns such as their Father’s Day ad that featured two gay men.

DeGeneres and JCPenney are not the only ones who have been targeted by One Million Moms. They have also protested Urban Outfitters, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and Jennifer Lopez.
We’d like to know what you think. Were you offended by Ellen’s JCP Christmas commercial? Do you think One Million Moms were right to respond to the JCP Ellen Christmas ad the way they did? Or do think they are over-reacting? We know you have an opinion and we’d love to hear it, so post a comment below and tell us all about it.

You “MOMS” need to get over yourselves. I am a 64 yr. old “straight” female and I think you are being ridiculous! She’s not wearing a sign that says she’s a lesbian so how are kids going to know that? If you knew anything about her as a person and her philanthropic programs then maybe you would feel at least a little bit ashamed of yourselves. I’ve never heard of your group until now but you remind me of Madeleine Murray O’Hare only with a different agenda. Why can’t people keep their thoughts to themselves or at least stop trying to stuff them down others throats!!!

You know, this is absolutely ridiculous!! JCPenny’s ad has nothing wrong in it. So what, a lesbian is in it. Okay, so JCPenny’s is a “family” store, well does that mean that One Million Moms is saying that JCPenny should ban lesbian and gay men in their stores? Someone should take action against One Million Moms. I guarantee that someone who works there is either gay or has a family member that is gay so what’s the big deal?

It’s just disgusting that people judge someone based on their sexual orientation. Ellen was not saying that everyone should be a lesbian, so I don’t see the big damn deal.

This is so knit picking, oh my gosh. I love Ellen and she really seems like a nice person. I watch her show all the time. I was really glad that JCP had her in their adds. She is really very good at what she does and such a natural. I feel as long as shes not doing anything in her adds, shouting out lesiban etc. its ok. So get over it ladies, its none of your affair. Bette

Please let us all move on. Shame on the comments about Ellen. Life is too short and I will always continue my loyalty to JCP. Period!!!!

You know, a certain percentage of these mom’s children will be gay or lesbian, fundamentalists or not. Why don’t we just ban intolerant people?

Well all i have to say is that if this is a “Christian” group they arent acting like it! Doesn’t the Bible say “whoever is without sin cast the first stone”? (not saying lesbianism is a sin), But the women don’t have a very Christian attitude! Whatever they think and/or believe u should love and respect ur neighbor. Heck, even Jesus was a good friend to Mary Magdeline, and I’m pretty sure she was a prostitute! Get the picture?!

So of the one million moms, does not one of them have a gay child? You have got to figure, if there are 1 million christian moms, you know they have at least 5 kids each. Do they disown them? Send them to anti gay school ? Just curious.
