Amazing Race Winners Respond To Fan Criticism

December 11, 2012 08:22 AM by Lisa Princ

This week on The Amazing Race, the final three teams duked it out in a race for the ultimate prize. Fans seemed a bit stunned however, when it was actually The Beekman Boys, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, who ended up winning. After their big win, Josh and Brent responded to the fan criticism, and dished on what they will be doing next.

Josh Kilmer Purcell and Brent Ridge went into the Amazing Race finale as the underdogs. Finishing close to last over five times during the season, and never once in the top spot, or even the top two, they were definitely not the likely choice to win. The pair managed to overcome the odds, and ended up winning, leaving some fans shaking their heads in disbelief. So, what exactly do the Beekman boys think about all the fan criticism?

After their win, the pair spoke to media, and did not appear to be affected by the negativity. Instead, Brent explained: “We started middle of the pack. I think just because of the way the last half of the Race went, people thought that we were always at the end. … And there was quite a bit switching around before Tex and Lex started dominating the last few legs. I think that because of approach that we took in that we weren’t always gunning to be the first team to reach the mat, when it came down to the end when it really mattered, we weren’t mentally exhausted, so we could make the right decisions.”

Meanwhile, Josh explained that he does not mind at all being referred to as the “worst winners,” as he revealed: “Let me go on record as saying, I would always rather be the worst winner than the best loser!”

So, what do the boys plan on doing with their winnings? “We’re going to pay off the mortgage on our farm so that I can move up to Sharon Springs full time and we can be together again. We’re also going to buy a building on the main street in our village that will become the headquarters of our business. … We’re also starting a line of food products, where 25 percent of the profits will go to help other farmers pay off their mortgages,” Josh revealed. Brent then went on to say that they are working on their next cookbook, which should be available next fall.

Congrats to you guys! I liked all the players this year for a change. Love your perseverance and the only leg that mattered is the last one worth $1M! You pulled it off against all odds. Very happy for you.

I’m thrilled that the guys won! I loved their show when it was on and was stunned to see them as a team on Amazing Race. Never thought they’d win but was n their corner every show. All the teams were great this season but the Beekmans made it much more interesting. I’d love to see them back on their own series.

It is so awesome that you guys won!! I was rooting for you both all along. Your love, respect, for everyone in the race despite how you were treated was an example for everyone who wants to be on this show and for how everyone should approach life!

Good job guys!!! It’s always good to see the unexpected. It totally changes the game. Anyone can win. It’s just a matter of timing & luck. They had both. Their strengths came thew in the end. That’s all that counts is the final leg. Congratulations!!!

I so loved that the “underdogs” won! They were truly inspiring – kept trucking no matter what, even when the twins were getting mean with them and the chippendales and the texans were conspiring against them! Right on Beekmans!

I love the Boys! I was so happy to see them crossing the finish line first. They were not in the 6 against 2 alliance and more power to them for beating the other 3 teams..soundly!! Go Guys.

I’m stunned but very happy they won the race. Never once coming in 1st for the whole race but end up winning? That’s really “Amazing”, just like the race. They were nice guy’s and ‘played nice’ the whole race. Even when being called “the evil gay’s” they just shrugged it off. I like to see nice guy’s come in 1st. Plus this shows even they shy people who don’t push their weight around, “cheat”, steal, lie, can win in the end. Kind of like the race between the turtle and the rabbit….slow but steady. Three cheers guys!

Congratulations! It was the best finale ever. I was stunned and thrilled that you both won and you did it without stealing, cheating, and back stabbing any of the other teams. Great sportsmanship!

Wow! If a team ever deserved to win, this team certainly did! Great job, Beekman boys!!! We liked all 3 of the final top teams. The Chippendales – what great guys and what a good reason to want to win. It will definitely be hard to top this season of Amazing Race but can’t wait for the next one to begin, we’re HUGE fans!
