The Voice Results Recap: And Then There Were Three

December 11, 2012 07:12 PM by Shayla Perry

After their emotional performances from last night, the four remaining artists — Team Blake‘s Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott, and Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte — learned who was saved from elimination, and whose time on The Voice has come to an end. Well…. Not the end, because like some of Season 2′s fan favorites who graced the stage tonight, they’ll probably be back next season; but you get the idea. Who was sent home? Find out after the jump.

If you’re reading this instead of watching the overly drawn out one-hour results show on NBC tonight — congratulations! You saved yourself from several commercial breaks, unnecessary, banter, and dramatic…pauses from Carson Daly. All to find out which of the 4 remaining artists was being sent home, which you can easily find out by reading this post in waaay under an hour (here’s a secret — it’ll take you even less time if you skip to the bottom).

But, what you did miss was the much anticipated return of Season 2 finalist, Juliet Simms, along with RaeLynn, Chris Mann, and Tony Lucca (although we felt a bit cheated not getting to hear Tony sing).

First, Terry and Cassadee got together for the first time singing “Little Talks.” We love, love, LOVE, seeing the chemistry between these two teammates, and unlike the majority of the duets and group performances during the live shows, the song choice and their voices really worked well.

Then, the moment we were waiting for…(the first one, anyway) Juliet Simms hits the stage with her new single “Wild Child,” and suddenly we’re taken back to Season 2 and all of the wonderful feelings we got hearing her awesome, gritty voice.

Unfortunately, her performance was followed by one of the moments we always dread each Tuesday (though probably not as much as the contestants do themselves)… The 4 artists are brought centerstage, where Terry McDermott learns that he’s the first to be saved by America’s votes.

Up next, Season 2 finalist from Team Blake, RaeLynn returns with her single, “Boyfriend.” Her performance was pretty good, but we’re still gushing over Blake Shelton watching her like a proud papa.

Team Christina alum, Chris Mann is the next to take us down memory lane, singing his new single, “Roads.”

After Cassadee is saved — which really doesn’t surprise us, since having two artists from the same team left standing is far more dramatic — Nicholas and Trevin have to collect themselves enough to sing Mariah Carey’s “Hero” together. BTW, definitely a song more suited for Trevin, than Nicholas, who seemed to have a little trouble with the ballad.

FINALLY, Nicholas and Trevin are centerstage together and after waaay too many words from the coaches, Trevin Hunte is sent home, making Nicholas David the last man standing on Team Cee Lo.

What did you think of the results of tonight’s show? Did America get it right? Who do you think will take home the grand prize next week — Terry, Cassadee, or Nicholas? Sound off in the Comments section below.

trevin’s performance last night was painfully bad…he was off key a lot of times and the song itself was a bad choice.

I fricken lve treven he shouldnt have gone home. He can sing like amazinly beautifulness. Everyone knows he can do better just because he didnt do it that one time. Ugh. He was my favorite. America was wrong. I feel like not watchig the voice anymore.

There is no way that America vote for Nicholas over Trevin. Trevin is 10 timesthe singer that Nicholas is. I cannot not believe that took place. I am now figuring that this is a rigged show; like so many other of these that are on TV these days. I will not be watching the show anymore, and many of my friends are thinking the same way.

Boo-hoo, although Trevin will most likely get a record deal or perhaps even a broadway gig. He’s very talented. Unlike Cassadee, who might just win, but in the long run will burn out, fizzle, or just ‘fade away’ due to lack of character substance and personal ambition! Just saying…..

I can’t believe Trevon was eliminated. I thought he was a shoe-in to win it all! I love all the artists, but Trevon is the best vocalist that has ever appeared on The Voice (or any other competition). I feel sure all the top 6 or 8 will have amazing careers because they are so talented, but I agreed with Adam when he said Trevon could sing the phone book. I have been successful in selecting the winner each year. This was a shocker!

I was glad to see Trevin go! I thought Nicholas, Cassadee and Terry all had amazing performances the night before with perfect song choices! I also felt duped by The Voice about Trevin. They made him seem like he was brought up in a hard knocks life on the hard streets of NYC but when he went home he went to Atlanta where he’s lived since he was 11 to a big beautiful home in a gorgeous neighborhood! Totally not the way he was portayed all season.
I love Nicholas…his voice is so rich and soulful! His love for his family is so clear and beautiful! I hope America continues to vote him through…I know I will!

I am shocked that Casadee and Terry are still in and Trevin is not! To me Trevin far outshone C & T who were just so boring. This should have come down to Trevin and Nicholas – both have truly the most amazing voices!!!!!! It really makes me suspcious about how the voting is recorded and what the behind the scenes deals are.

First let me say to Dana, your an idiot. What difference does it make wear he lives, he was still the best standing up there! Trevin is the best singer the voice has ever had. I’m sure he will succeed in life. There are so many singers out there just like Terry & Cassadee, they come a dime a dozen. Nicolas is one of a kind and also Trevin.

Season Three was rigged from day one as soon as they allowed coaches to steal singers, the online voting which, as American whites are the majority voters online, meant that blacks and asians would be going home. Public voting is wrong because the ratio of whites to nonwhites is about 70%, in favor of whites.

So online voting is inherently stacked in favor of white contestants. Furthermore, the idea of stealing singers undermines the entire system of contestants choosing one judge over another judge. There should be five judges: one Latino, one black, one white, one Asian, one gay/lesbian. After all of the thoughts and deliberating contestants do to choose the one judge who meshes more with their dreams and desires, how can the producers create an idiot system of allowing a coach or judge to snatch, even a losing contestant.

And how in the heck could a white singer copycat black songs end up beating a black man who sang both white and nonwhite songs superbly and with originality?

And let us not even get started on the rigging or serious breach of contestant rules by allowing washed up Dez return. If he could return then the producers owed Jessie Campbell stabbed him the back. Dez lost and never should have been allowed back on the show either for reasons of nepotism, racism, or sleeping with Christina because there definitely was something going on between those two that was inappropriate.

Now back to Nicholas, the biggest insult to black singers in the history of reality shows. How dare he try to outshine the people who did it best, as if to say he was better at singing black songs—because he was white. Outrageous. Whites prefer blacks singing black songs, and blacks prefer to hear white singers sing white songs, so which demographic is going to buy a Nicholas CD, and why should they. He was nothing but a copycat singer with a fake bow that made the audience nauseous. He is far too old to be on the cover of a CD and undoubtedly will have the worst CD sales in the history of the show.

As for Christina, why doesn’t she just admit that the only finalists that she will ever support are white males and females. Sure she plays a sneaky game and strings some blacks, asians, and Latinos along, or maybe even an Egyptian, but in the end Christina only picks white people.

The primary reason that the first two nonwhite Americans had low CD sales is because the promoters they sign contracts with could not sell oxygen to a dying astronaut. In short, they suck at their marketing.

And speaking of marketing, the greatest insult to The Voice contestants is when the coaches cut into the action of contestants and try to market their own music, instead of putting 100% behind the contestants. It is fine to have guest singers who have NO AFFILIATION with any of the coaches, but for the coaches to selfishly and greedily promote their own music while struggling contestants do not even know if they can survive the show is just plain wrong. This is precisely why American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance would never try to steal the show from contestants and selfishly promote their own music. At the most it is just plain unconscionable and at the very least it is a conflict of interest. And what the heck is Blake doing pushing his own TV Christmas show with country music. It is inappropriate for any coach to maliciously use The Voice to promote for himself or herself during a singing competition for new singers just starting out. Where is the compassion…where is the love coaches? Or are you so hard up for fans that you try to hustle in on the fans base of the contestants.

I will start calling this show The White Voice because that will be the only color winning under this new ridiculous voting system and its inherent flaws. Furthermore, with coaches trying to selfishly promote themselves…when they should be 100% focused on the futures of contestants, it appears that The Voice lacks professional ethics. Lastly, someone needs to sit Christina down and teach her there is a difference dressing classy…and dressing sleazy.

If one was to teleport Christina and her sleazy outfit with her bosom hanging all out along with a refined lady dressed in a nice dress, to a location with each one sitting in front of two identical looking single family homes. And a male pedestrian walking by was asked which of the two houses was a cat house with prostitutes inside, and a madame sitting in front of a cat house. The house with Christina sitting in the front or the house with the refinely dressed woman in front?
Allowing Christina to wear old miss young clothes on The Voice removes the class from the show, which is already in jeopardy with the racially rigged voting system.

What the heck. Nicolas was way off key and his voice cracked once during his performance Monday night. Trevin was the better by far on his choice of songs and his singing. Nicolas is not a singer that will ever hit the top charts. He doesn’t have the ability to hit the high notes and sustain them, he choice of songs should have proved that. America you are DUH!!!!

Lisa you can keep your insults to yourself as it just goes to show your ignorance. I am putting down the show for playing out a small part of his past and focusing on that. You are right, it makes no difference where he is from or where he lives now but don’t try to get sympathy votes for him!
I have watched every episode of The Voice since it has been on and Trevin is not the best singer they’ve ever had…how about Javier Colon and Chris Mann or Vicci Martinez, Amanda Brown..just to name a few. He is young and has an amazing gift but he needs to continue to grow his gift. Even though he was clearly favored by CeeLo all season he has been inconsistent. That is what got him voted off the show. Trevin does have a naturally beautiful voice but he deserved (in my opinion) to go home this week.
I agree that Nicholas is one of a kind and that is who I will be voting for! (unless he totally sucks next week! lol)

What I’d like to know is if all of you crying over Trevon going home actually voted? He is a great singer but he had a bad performance and unfortunately America votes on the performance that night. Those of you who are Trevon fans and no longer want to watch The Voice…..did you even vote? If not then you have no one to blame but yourself!

  22. Dawn Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Did any of you who are now intending on “boycotting” The Voice even bother to vote for Trevin? He had a bad performance that night and if you didn’t bother to vote, stop whining!

  23. Schrelle Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

It’s called the “Voice” ….I’m just saying. Good luck to you Trevin. Cassadee comes across as a snob, but we are in America!

  24. Diana Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 1:28 pm

The three who were chosen last night are the three who should be there. While Trevin is good, his sustainability in a song is not. He had a lot of pitch issues the far overshadowed the song. The song choice was poor as well. The one that constantly amazes is Nicholas. He, of all of the contestants, pour all of his emotions into anything he sings. He has the grittiness and growl that makes a song truly his. As to who will win, well that is left up to America. But if you want an artist that will not be a flash in the pan, then Nicholas is the best choice. With his soulful singing he has staying power.

  25. Lacey Says:

America got it right….Nicholas is so different, no one else like him. He so good, his voice is special and easy on the hears. he will be the one to take this all the way.

  27. Larry Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Have to laugh when people say it is rigged because Trevin was eliminated. Why would they want to eliminate him? He has given amazing performances, BUT, he had a bad night, was off key and was straining for notes. He knew it. You could see how unhappy he was with his performance.

Unfortunately, not the best voice will win, but the remaining three are all talented and have held up well under the pressure. Trevin just cracked at the wrong point and now he is out.
Oh yeah…Nick needs to shave the weedy beard…..;-))

  28. Joanna Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 3:04 pm

I totally agree with Dana up there. Trevin did not have a hard knock life, but was able to garner the “sympathy” votes. Yes, he is very talented, but he still has some things to work on. He gets out of tune often and sometimes it just sounds like he is a woman screaming. With time and experience he can overcome that. Terry is my favorite–he has been genuine and consistent throughout, and he knows how to put on a show. Cassadee is doing very well with expressing the emotions of the lyrics, but I just don’t care as much for her pitch. I love Nicholas, but he is more for a specific style and sound of music than music for everyone. Overall they have each become better, but I want Terry to win.

  29. Joanna Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Asar, why do you bother watching the show if you believe all white people are evil? Yes, that is what I understood from your rant which took away from the show results and made it your podium. I say go spend all of your time with people of your race/color only and see how boring and sad it is. There are many different kinds of people in this world, in this country, who have different skin colors, different ethnicities, different religions, and languages that deserve to be able to learn about each other without a bigot like you causing problems. Yes, you are a bigot if you attribute all the problems to one race of people whatever color you may be.

  30. charlotte Says:

Yes, I stopped watching because ‘The Voice’ seems to be rigged. Trevin is a magnificent singer, as was the woman who mentored him on the show and lost out to him. This is the same reason I stopped watching ‘Dancing with the Stars’ with Marie Osmond and her no dancing self.

  31. Kel Says:

    December 12th, 2012 at 11:20 pm

Trevin….is not the loser….he already has a record deal….that’s why he was not upset. It’s not black or white issue….He’s 18 and in a much better position……

  37. Cookie Says:
    December 12th, 2012 at 11:34 pm

Asar, what in the world are you talking about? So far the two Voice winners have been Latino and African-American. So, this year the three finalists are Caucasian. Should all Caucasian contestants be judged on a different scale than anyone else? Can a white person win anything anymore without someone shouting “Racism!” Frankly, your post saddened me.

  38. P Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 3:54 am

Trevin Hunte has an unbelievable voice. He can sing anything with the range he has. I really thought he would win it all and rightfully so. I was so upset last night when he was eliminated. Nicholas Davis has a very limited song type but that is it. Yes he can sing limited songs. I think Nicholas should have been eliminated before Amanda Brown. She is another one that can sing anything. I love Terry and Cassadee Pope too but only one can win and I feel it should have been Trevin. If Nicholas Davis wins something is wrong. His duet last night with Terry was TERRIBLE and his voice is limited. Monday was bad song choice for Trevin but his talent is above the rest.

  39. Tina Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 7:23 am

Wow, I actually missed the show Tuesday night due to my fab NCIS. That said, I also think the best 4 were on Monday. Trevin did have a weak night Monday but so did Nicolas. I love all 4 but I feel due to the majority of music marketing, Casadee will win, although either of the 4 would be great. I would like to see Terry or Nick win, they have paid their dues and deserve the chance.

  40. A Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 8:16 am

Trevin should not have been eliminated. I’m afraid those in America who are voting think it’s “cool” to vote for someone as weird at Nicholas. Trevin and Terry are far better vocalists – but just like dancing with the stars – the best aren’t necessarily the most popular with voting America.
At this point Terry should be the winner. We all know he won’t be – but if you listen to the singers – out of the three left he’s the best of the lineup.

  41. jred Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 9:48 am

For those who say the show must be rigged for Trevin to be eliminated- had you checked ITunes top10 on Tuesday morning, you would have found three of the four artists on the top 10, and Trevin wasn’t one of them.

It is possible that the system is rigged, but those who paid to vote (i.e. downloaded the music) agreed with the results.

I was rooting for Trevin for most of the show, since I thought he had the best voice, but I also thought he had the weakest performance on Monday. The song choice was terrible.

  42. Listen close Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 9:51 am

Sorry Cassadee, too much like so many other singers, but you do sing well, on pitch and look good. Trevin, terrible time for a bad night, bad key, way flat. Terry, I don’t get it, predictable and not that good a singer, almost always off key until the vibrato covers it up. Nicholas, unique voice, sings with emotion and believability, I can take a voice cracking for emotion more than being off pitch. You Nick get my vote.

  43. Tara Says:

Asar- Hello?????? The last two winners have been minorities.

  44. Jackie Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 1:03 pm

I liked all four that were remaining, I think Trevin was as good as the rest, I think Terry should win. Everyone has their opinions, thats why its great to be an American! They are all good, and will have no problem getting a record deal.

  45. Tired Says:
    December 13th, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Asar, get a life. Cookie is right. I bet you are one of those people that think whites will owe you all your life. This is 2012. People are tired of the “you owe me attitude”

  46. rider89 Says:
    December 14th, 2012 at 11:32 am

First off, to Asar, your tinfoil has come loose, apparently, and if you demand watching a show in a market that has a ethnic majority other than “white”, perhaps you have chosen the wrong place to live (you do know what to do about that?).
Secondly, Trevin did lots of vocal gymnastics, but he had plenty of flaws to go with it. His voting was confined mostly to r&b fanatics, who can tolerate the waaaaaay overdone runs and screeching. He was very much like the guy on Idol last year, who was much more refined, but also was voted off about 3rd or so.

I agree that America has gotten the top 3 right. I usually DVR the show and I have to admit I actually pressed fast forward to get through parts of the show…..
