In the heyday of the Twilight franchise, several networks cashed in on the popularity of werewolves and vampires. Thus, the creation of such shows as The Vampire Diaries, True Blood and the BBC’s Being Human. Not to mention vampire themes on all our favorite reality series, including, of course, America’s Next Top Model. Now that the final Twilight installment has been released, vampires are on their way out. Time to make way for…dystopia! And don’t forget wilderness survival, another theme made popular by the hit Hunger Games series.
In an effort to jump on the Hunger Games bandwagon, CW is now developing its own version of the hit series. Apparently, the head honchos at the network have failed to recognize the irony in imitating a story for which criticism of reality culture takes center stage. Either that, or the show’s producers do understand the irony and doesn’t give a damn, because something so closely following the latest genre trend is sure to capture those elusive ratings!
Dubbed The Hunt, this new reality show will follow the adventures of twelve couples attempting to capture rival teams. Meanwhile, these groups must survive in the wild without such treasured provisions as processed food and running water.
One small twist that might disappoint hardcore fans of The Hunger Games: no killing allowed on The Hunt! We’re kinda wondering how capturing will take place — can the contestants at least maim each other? Or will it be something lame, like marking them with a paintball gun? Of course, all is good in our book if they include some version of the catchphrase, “May the odds be ever in your favor!”
The premiere date for The Hunt has not been released, nor have the names of the first season’s contestants. But we do know that the show’s executive producers are Jay Renfroe, David Garfinkle and Greg Goldman, all of whom are currently also executive producers for fellow reality show Ready For Love.
