Forbes magazine has declared Britney Spears the highest paid female in music for 2012. The 31-year-old pop singer and X Factor judge has raked in a whopping $58 million over the past year sending her straight to the #1 spot on the Top-Earning Women In Music 2012 list.
According to ABC, Forbes created the list by looking at a number of factors including record sales, tour revenue, merchandise, endorsements, and other miscellaneous ventures. The compilation period for the list is from May 2011 to May 2012 and is tallied prior to subtracting management fees, legal costs, and taxes.
In Britney’s case, her latest album, “Femme Fatale” and the supporting tour as well as endorsement deals helped propel her to the top of the list. Looking ahead to next year, she will have earnings from her judging gig on The X Factor to add to her totals. Do you think she’ll be able to stay at number one two years in a row?
Who else made the list? Taylor Swift came in at a close second with $57 million and at 22-years-old, that’s quite an accomplishment. The songwriter and country crossover artist released her latest album “Red” earlier this year and it went triple platinum in less than a month. Swift has been on a non-stop tour promoting the album since its release.
The remaining top ten spots went to the following artists:
- #3 Rihanna, $54 million
- #4 Lady Gaga, $52 million
- #5 Katy Perry, $45 million
- #6 Beyonce $40 million
- #7 Adele, $35 million
- #8 Sade, $33 million
- #9 Madonna, $30 million
- #10 Shakira, $20 million
