Bette Midler, the newest Gleek? Hard to believe, but if there’s any truth to the rumors, the famous songstress and Marriage Ref star could be joining the likes of Lea Michele and Darren Criss on one of FOX’s biggest shows. She might be sloppy seconds after Barbara Streisand, but we can at least assume that Midler won’t have to appear as a contestant on The Glee Project!
Hey Ryan Murphy — the cast on Glee could use a little sprucing up (yes, we know the cast received a huge makeover this fall, but we weren’t all that pleased with the results). And you have the perfect candidate waiting in line: Bette Midler! You better get on it, because we’d love to see the Divine Miss M show those young ‘uns how it’s done.
Unfortuantely, Glee casting director Ryan Murphy hasn’t been particularly helpful as of late. In a recent chat with Access Hollywood, Midler said that Murphy had surprised her during a Michael Kors benefit, making a point of including the singer in his speech: “If Bette Midler’s in the house, I want to invite her onto Glee!” It appears that Murphy has since forgotten about the offer, for Midler says she has yet to hear from him. She told Access Hollywood, ”I’m still waiting for the call. But, it’s fine.”
The big question of course, is whether Bette Midler would join the newbies at McKinley or earn a role alongside Kate Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg at NYADA, the college of choise for both Rachel and Kurt. Midler had a few suggestions for roles in which she would excel, with her top picks being Sue Sylvester’s evil sister or Rachel Berry’s grandmother.
Would you like to see Bette Midler play either of the suggested parts on Glee? Or do you have a better idea for a role? Feel free to speculate on the latest Bette Midler rumors in the comments section below.
