Adam Levine’s Honey Boo Boo Slam…What’s Next?

December 18, 2012 05:00 PM by Megan Wilson

Adam Levine, The Voice judge, is known for being a huge whiner.  In this months issue of GQ, he said some pretty harsh words about Honey Boo Boo.  What will he do next?  Were his words crossing the line?

In today’s technology driven society, there is an outcry for anti-bullying measures after cyber-bullying claims the lives of teens across the world.  But it seems that when it comes to celebrities,  it’s okay for bullying to take place.  When celebrities are usually asked about Honey Boo Boo, most speak positively about her.  While Adam Levine didn’t openly insult Honey Boo Boo, he did insult their family and their way of life.  He said “Seriously, Honey Boo Boo is the decay of Western civilization. Just because so many people watch the show doesn’t mean it’s good. So many people witness atrocities and can’t take their eyes away from them, but that doesn’t mean they’re good. That show is literally The. Worst. Thing. That’s. Ever. Happened.”  He continued, saying, “It’s complete f**cking ignorance and the most despicable way to treat your kids. F**k those people. They’re just the worst. Sorry, I’m so sensitive to that – like, I don’t know, man, it’s upsetting.”

Personally, I think he crossed the line.  There is a polite way to act, and a rude way, and Adam is constantly throwing rude fits! Whether you like Honey Boo Boo or not (And I’ve honestly never seen an episode of the show), his choice of words was not only poor, but incredibly derogatory.  And while history shows that Adam complains about EVERYTHING, his words also show that he hasn’t done his research.  While Honey Boo Boo’s family may not be the classiest group on the block, Honey Boo Boo and her family have donated many of her toys to charity, along with funds from her earnings.  They frequently are involved in community outreach programs as well.  I personally think that Honey Boo Boo can be grating on my nerves, but I also recognize that she’s a child, and she doesn’t deserve to learn about her family being dragged through the mud on the internet.  While I hope that Honey Boo Boo’s family doesn’t rise to Adam’s bait, I do hope that Adam has had some time to think about his words and their impact.

I don’t know if he handled it the right way, but he made a good point. The family is a train wreck which is why people watch them. It’s purely entertainment. In absolutely no way do I agree with the ‘child beauty pageant’ lifestyle. This show should just be taken off of the air because it’s making them look bad.

Why would parents let their child act and say the things they are allowing on tv. I think it is demeaning for the parents and honey boo boo. Plus, its a bad example to other children.

How can this writer claim that Adam Levine crossed a line when said writer hasn’t even the professional deligence to watch an episode of ths tragic train wreck. Sheesh it makes you look like a moron

Adam Levine could have (should have)chosen a more eloquent way to say what most people are thinking; the child is a product of a mother in need of some serious therapy. It is good that the family donates to others less fortunate and is involved in community service, but that does not excuse their audacious behavior.

This family loves each other unconditionally. This is one of the only real reality tv shows. These are real people, not prissy Hollywood people who bathe in money. I’m tired of seeing people like that. These people are weird and funny, but there is nothing wrong with that. They spend time with each other and love each other, why are people so upset?
Levine is the downfall of society, treating people like shit – that’s disgusting.

Adam IS right. Maybe he could have worded it better but the entire family, with the exception of the father, is grossly overweight. Their eating habits (catsup on spaghetti,) the 15 year old with a baby already and no contact with the father, eating deer that has been hit by a car, etc. etc. This is not exactly a family that can be considered role models. And Megan, if you’ve never seen the show where do you get off even having an opinion??????

    I agree with him.
Bullying, that’s a stretch, he hit it right on the head .
I can’t believe people would waste their time with crap like that.
Instead of blasting Adam maybe you should critique boo boo.

This isn’t bullying, people are so sensitive. He referenced the show.

Um, he completely has a point. Of course, people find almost everything “offensive” these days, but the way those people exploit their daughter is appalling. THAT’S the true problem, Adam is just saying it like it is.

I agree with him. There has to be a limit to grotesquery. He said what other people want to say. they are trshy and it’s going to show young people that ignorance is something to aspire to just because they are humorous. It’s funny because the’re gross, thats it.

As a writer, shouldn’t you be required to watch honey boo boo before writing about how Adam Levine reacted to it? Do writers not do research anymore. The show is exploiting children and that girl will most likely be mocked into her teenage years for it. You are being derogatory towards him as well. Hypocrisy.
