Poor Bruno Mars. Not only has he been Locked Out Of Heaven, he’s also locked out of the number one position on the Billboard Top 200. The Voice guest star recently debuted the album Unorthodox Jukebox, but failed to reach that elusive number one position…thanks to Taylor Swift. He knew she was trouble!
The debut of Bruno Mars’ new album Unorthodox Jukebox was certainly a successful one, thanks, in part, to heavy promotion on shows such as The Voice and Ellen. The singer sold 192,000 copies during the album’s first week out. But that impressive figure was not enough to knock Taylor Swift out of the top spot (where she has now been smugly perched for five weeks). Over a month after the release of Red, Taylor is still number one, having sold over 208,000 copies!
Of course, if we are going to pit Bruno Mars against Taylor Swift, there is one area in which the second place Billboard artist has beat out T Swift: the Forbes 30 Under 30 list! While both Taylor and Bruno made the list of the most influential musicians of the year, Bruno came in at 16th, well ahead of Taylor’s 27th place ranking. Another recent Bruno victory? Unorthodox Jukebox quickly shot up in the United Kingdom rankings to become the fastest selling album of 2012. So, while Taylor is America’s sweetheart, Bruno Mars has clearly won the battle for British fandom.
If you were to choose between a Taylor Swift’s album Red and Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox, which would earn the honor of your purchase? Leave a comment and let us know!
