Rihanna, American Idol and X-Factor guest star, has been spending some much needed girl time in Barbados. While reports surfaced of the soon-to-be reality-tv star just needing some girl time, it seems that she actually headed to the tropical island for a much more philanthropic reason: to donate a whopping 1.75 million to a hospital! Which hospital? Read below to find out!
Rihanna headed to her hometown in Barbados earlier last week, and by all accounts was having a wonderful time in her beach front condo. There’s been another rumored split between Rihanna and Chris Brown after Chris was spotted with Karrueche Tran on Wednesday, so many sources revealed that this vacation was to clear Rihanna’s head. We’re learning this morning, however, that there was a much deeper reason for her appearance in Barbados: To donate 1.75 million to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown in the name of her grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite.
The funds will go to purchase three pieces of equipment for the medical center. The hospital has renamed the wing the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. “This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them,” Rihanna said in a statement she released while being accompanied by her mother and grandfather.
Rihanna was especially close to her grandmother, who died June 30th of breast cancer.
