The Voice judge Shakira, 35, and her boyfriend Gerard Pique, 25, first announced they were having a baby in September and later confirmed they were expecting a baby boy. Then on December 27, much to the shock of adoring fans, Pique took to Twitter announcing the birth of their son. But did Shakira really give birth? Or did Pique just make it up? Take the jump to find out!
According to US Weekly, on Thursday, Pique tweeted in Spanish to 4.7 million loyal followers, “Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages.” Pique added, “It has a name! His name is Innocent!”
The news sent fans and media outlets scrambling and rumors began to fly about the birth but all the hype was short-lived because 10 hours after announcing the birth of his son, Pique dropped the bomb… “Happy Dia de los Inocentes to all!” Not sure what he’s trying to say? “Dia de los Inocentes,” means Day of the Holy Innocents and is a holiday celebrated in Spain and Mexico. The meaning is much the same as April Fool’s Day in America. You guessed it… the joke is on us! In other words, Shakira did not have the baby. Pique was only playing a harmless prank on everyone in observance of the Dia de los Inocentes holiday.
While Shakira is still very much pregnant and said, “I could have another nine months like this,” she is getting excited about becoming a mother. A source close to the singer said, “Shakira is really looking forward to being a mother. [She and Gerard] definitely want more than one together.”
What did you think of Pique’s Twitter prank? At least the guy has a sense of humor, right? We know you have an opinion so sound off and let us know what you think.
