Taylor Swift Trespasser Will Not Be Charged

January 01, 2013 08:00 AM by Donna W. Martin

Earlier this month, we learned that armed intruder, 24-year-old Jacob Kulke had been arrested in connection with trying to break into the Nashville home of X Factor guest star, Taylor Swift. Lucky for Swift, she wasn’t home. Instead, she was in England on vacation celebrating her 23rd birthday with boyfriend Harry Styles of One Direction. However, despite the fact Kulke was trespassing, carrying a pocketknife, and climbing a fence and a gate to gain access to Swift’s residence, he will not be charged! What’s up with that?

According to Billboard, on Thursday prosecutors in the case decided to decline pursuing a criminal trespassing charge against Kulke. The affidavit stated that he had been in contact with someone at Swift’s residence via social media. He said he was dating her, it was her birthday, and he was coming to surprise her. He admitted to police he had taken a bus from Wisconsin to Nashville and then travelled to the star’s home by taxi.

Kulke’s attorney, Sean McKinney said his client had been tricked and was not guilty of trespassing. He said someone had led Kulke to believe he was communicating with Swift. “It is the defense’s position that he was misled by someone else. Mr. Kulke had reasonable belief that he was invited on to the premises.”

Say what? Wouldn’t you be “sure” if you were dating Taylor Swift? If you were invited to someone’s home, why would you need to climb a fence and a gate to get in? And why in the world would you need a knife?

“Mr. Kulke is looking for his 15 minutes of fame and he got all he deserved,” Assistant District Attorney Tali Rosenblum said. The trespassing charge is a misdemeanor that if convicted carries a maximum 30-day jail sentence and Kulke has already spent 13 days in jail.

Kulke is still in jail where he will remain while he fights extradition to Colorado to face a probation violation.

What do you think about Kulke not being charged for trying to break into Swift’s home? Do you think he should have been charged? And do you think he will try to break in to Swift’s home again? Post a comment and let us know.
