Adam Lambert is not a fan of the latest film version of Les Miserables and he’s not afraid to let the world know! The American Idol alum has been catching some criticism for having the nerve to bash Les Mis, but surprisingly, said criticism is not coming from star of the show Russell Crowe. In fact, Russell says he agrees with Adam!
When critiquing the recently released Les Miserables, Adam Lambert echoed many of our sentiments. For example, the singer doesn’t understand why the film didn’t bother to cast experienced Broadway professionals, as opposed to big-name actors with absolutely no talent for singing. In his heavily-criticized Twitter rant, Adam Lambert complained, “Les Mis: Visually impressive w great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers.”
Russell Crowe later acknowledged Adam Lambert’s criticism via Twitter, saying that the American Idol star has a point. “I don’t disagree with Adam,” he tweeted, adding, “sure it could have been sweetened,Hooper wanted it raw and real, that’s how it is.”
While it’s nice to see Russell Crowe so conciliatory, he’s kinda missing the point. Believe it or not, trained singers would have been more than capable of keeping the film “raw and real” while still showing off their vocal talent. Watch Les Mis on Broadway sometime and you’ll see that it’s not always as sugary-sweet as people claim.
Following a fair amount of discussion on the topic (with opinions inserted by Russell Crowe and a wide range of Les Mis fans), Adam conceded, “I’m so glad we are all discussing this now! Look-I grew up w this musical and so my expectations are quite high. Didn’t mean to b negative.”
Who do you think makes the better argument: Adam Lambert or Russell Crowe? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
