January 03, 2013 08:00 AM by Lisa Princ

Julianne Hough is gearing up for the premiere of Safe Haven, in which she portrays a domestic abuse survivor. But did you know that the role actually hits home with the Dancing with the Stars pro? That’s right, Hough recently revealed that she was actually abused as a child!

Julianne Hough abused? Who would have thought? According to the actress and Dancing With The Stars pro, she was actually abused as a child. In the new issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Hough explained that when she was about 10 years old, and after her parents divorced, she moved Utah to London with her brother Derek to study dance at London’s Italia Conti Academy of the Arts.

But while there, things took a turn for the worse, as Julianne revealed: “While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything,” adding: “I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer. I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love.”

The 24-year-old girlfriend of Ryan Seacrest declined to go into too much detail about her painful ordeal, but she did say that it got worse as she hit puberty. Hough concluded: “I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody. What’s past is past.”
