Recently, we learned that Kim Kardashian, star of Keeping Up With The Kardashians is pregnant with Kanye West’s baby. Does that spell bad news for West’s popularity? Could he be next in line to suffer the Kardashian curse? Keep reading for more details.
According to the Huffington Post, the joyful baby news may result in a decline in popularity for West. How is that possible and why would it matter? According to a study of N-Scores, an algorithm that assesses an athlete’s popularity, conducted by Nielson’s SVP of Sports, Stephen Master, three sports players who dated one of the Kardashian sisters ended up experiencing a decline in the public’s perception of them, which could be called the “Kardashian curse.”
“Between Lamar Odom, Reggie Bush, and Kris Humphries, those guys have all had their N-Score hurt, and it isn’t because of their awareness. Their awareness has actually shot up, in every case, but their negative appeal has also shot up,” Master said. “You need to do well, and you also need to date someone who people like. The Kardashians are controversial. They have really negatively impacted the marketability of [Odom, Bush, and Humphries].”
Miami Dolphins running back, Reggie Bush dated Kim Kardashian from 2007 to 2010. While his popularity declined slightly after they started dating, it took a deeper plunge when they broke up, got back together, and then broke up for good. His popularity has been on the rise since but it is still not as high as it was prior to dating Kim.
The Nets basketball player, Kris Humphries dated and later married Kim Kardashian. However, their marriage lasted only 72 days and Humphries’ popularity took a nosedive. Forbes Magazine named him “NBA’s Most Disliked Player” in 2011.
Lamar Odom dated and married Khloe Kardashian and while they are still married, Odom’s popularity has gone up and down since 2009. However, much of his decline in popularity could be attributed to conception struggles and rumors of cheating, right?
Is there really a Kardashian curse? Do you think West’s popularity will suffer because of his relationship with Kim and their baby news? Or do you think their popularity as a couple will grow as people anticipate the baby’s birth? Post a comment and let us know.
