We were hoping we’d been Punk’d, but it really looks like Two and a Half Men star Ashton Kutcher will be portraying Steve Jobs in an upcoming movie titled, appropriately enough, jOBS. We’re just hoping that Ashton’s acting is enough to fully capture the complicated life and of course, genius mind of the man behind Apple’s success.
According to the latest buzz, the first biographical movie about Steve Jobs since his death in 2011 will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. jOBS will then be released on the big screen in April. This decision was made recently, when the rights to the project were purchased by Open Road Films and Five Star Feature Films.
So far, the producers of jOBS have done an excellent job of keeping the film under wraps. All we know is that Ashton Kutcher is starring as Steve Jobs and Josh Gad will play Apple cofounder (and Dancing with the Stars alum!) Steve Wozniak. Filming took place in June, 2012 — on location at Jobs’ childhood home! The rest of the details concerning the film have yet to be released. We won’t know much about the movie until it is shown at the Sundance Film Festival. At this point, there hasn’t even been the release of a trailer. The only official evidence of Ashton Kutcher’s role in the film is a single photo.
We’ll never know what Steve Jobs would have thought of being portrayed by Ashton Kutcher, but we do know that Steve Wozniak is a fan of the idea. In an April, 2012 interview, the Woz said, “I’m glad that he’s onboard. I think he’ll put a lot into it and that he cares about this particular subject…I feel that his selection was done in the most professional manner.”
Do you agree with Steve Wozniak, or was casting Ashton Kutcher a big mistake? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
