Guy Fieri of The Next Food Network Star, experienced a HUGE upsurge in popularity back in November after a writer for the New York Times, Pete Wells, gave the restaurant a run for it’s money in the form of a huge piece in the review section. Guy was obviously upset about the piece, and went to the Today Show to respond to the review on camera. As his new show, Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-off, is set to begin, he’s once again defending his restaurant. What did he have to say? Keep reading to find out!
In an interview with Yahoo! OMG, Guy talked about the validity of the review after a great moneymaking holiday season, saying, ‘There’s always going to be reviews and that one, of course, I think everybody read it the same way that I did, or at least the majority of people, that there was something else going on. But the beauty of it is that the proof is in the pudding and the restaurant continues to do incredible numbers and we continue to bring it. We’re happy with how the restaurant has been going and the holiday season in particular has been outstanding.”
Guy also addressed the fact that the review came after the restaurant had just opened. “which is not even in the realm of when places are reviewed. You give them a little more time to get their feet underneath them before you start rocking and rolling.” Although, I must admit, if I were a restaurant owner, I would definitely want to impress my clientele from the first day forward.
When Yahoo OMG! asked if Guy was changing anything in his restaurant due to the review, he said,“We are doing nothing outside of the normal standard operating procedures of what you do when you open a new restaurant. You make it. You make it the best you can. You review it. Is it working with service? Is it selling? Does it need to have more? Less? Hotter? Spicier? All these things. Regardless of a review or anybody’s opinion, as a chef and a restaurant owner, I have to review myself on a regular basis to make sure I’m doing what I’m always known to do and that is make the best product I can make.”
I’m not sure whether he’s bringing this up now to stir the pot, or to get fans excited for his upcoming show, but either way, there have been some changes to his menu. For example, Guy’s restaurant no longer serves the watermelon margarita that was once described as “Radiator fluid and formaldehyde.” Yummy.
Why do you think Guy is bringing this back up? Will you be watching Guy vs. Rachel: Celebrity Cook-Off? Let us know in the comments!
