It’s been a tough couple of years for Justin Bieber‘s PR team. After dealing with baby-mama-gate, the crew is now cleaning up yet another mess the Biebs has gotten into with pictures of him smoking weed making the rounds online. So what’s a pop superstar who’s supposed to have a squeaky clean image to do? How about a hosting gig on SNL?
Yes, straight out of the troubled celeb playbook (right after making a large donation to a charitable organization), Justin Bieber’s PR team is working overtime, and has managed to book the Biebs on NBC’s long-running sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live. You know, to have him making headlines for something other than public fights with his on-again-off-again girlfriend, Selena Gomez, and starry-eyed teens cutting themselves just to get him to stop smoking weed.
Justin will serve as both host and musical guest for the show, premiering Saturday, February 9th, which should prove to be quite interesting, since Bieber doesn’t exactly have much acting experience to tout…unless you count lip-syncing his way through performances, or his work on MTV‘s Punk’d reboot.
After the now infamous pot pictures surfaced, Justin reached out to his fans via Twitter, somewhat addressing the drug drama:
“Everyday growing and learning. Trying to be better. U get knocked down, u get up,” he wrote. “I see all of u. I hear all of u. I never want to let any of you down. I love u.”
Will the pseudo-apology be enough?
Of course, with the announcement of his Saturday Night Live gig, we’re sure there will be at least a few hundred parents grabbing their torches and pitchforks, ready to make an example out of the 18-year-old star, claiming that he shouldn’t be “rewarded” for his bad-boy behavior, and threatening to boycott NBC and SNL for having him on the show.
Then again…we could be wrong!
What do you think RTVM: Will NBC and/or SNL receive backlash over Justin Bieber hosting the show following his weed-smoking scandal? Should they? Sound off in the Comments section below!
