Recently, we learned that Real Housewives of New York City alum, Bethenny Frankel and husband Jason Hoppy have called it quits on their marriage of nearly three years. Now, Frankel opens up about the divorce on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Keep reading for more details.
According to NBC, an emotional Bethenny Frankel appeared on Wednesday’s episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about her divorce to Jason Hoppy. Frankel was booked for the show well in advance but chose not to cancel just because her personal life is upside down right now.
Ellen commented on the number of magazines Frankel is on the cover of currently and said, “That’s got to hurt like h*ll.”
“It’s difficult,” Frankel admitted. “Do I want to be doing this exact thing right now? No, but I can’t just only be on reality TV and show everything when it’s fairy princess, fairytale, and then not take my hits when I have to.”
Frankel said she felt like she’d had the “best/worst year ever…the highs and the lows.” She said being on the cover of the magazines didn’t bother her that much but admitted, “Dealing with that plus personal stuff at the same time is very surreal thing… Just going through something personal you have so many different emotions, and I feel like a bit of a disappointment to all of you. And, I feel like a failure.”
DeGeneres assured Frankel she was not a failure. “I feel like a failure. I really put it out there,” Frankel said. “I wanted the fairytale. I thought I had it. And [daughter] Bryn is my fairytale.”
Frankel said people have written her about the divorce, some are supportive and some are judgmental… some even said ‘now I don’t believe in love.’ “That’s just not true. Love is everywhere,” Frankel said. “It’s the road and you’re on it. It has peaks and valleys, and that’s what it is, but I don’t know how people go through this because this is excruciating.”
Frankel went on to say, “I wanted to rip the band-aid off so it could start to heal. This will obviously be better.” She admits, “I’m scared. I have the unknown future…you know everything and then one day you don’t know so I’m scared. I’m older. And I want to be able to say to people… It’s about what I do now. I never thought I’d be a role model but I think to some people I am or have been so this is an important time because it’s about what I do now…how I handle myself next with grace, with dignity. This is the time now that matters.”
