As we wait to see how the new judges will do this season on American Idol, the judges are not the only changes we will see in season 12. In fact, Nigel Lythgoe recently revealed that there are going to be some big changes this season. What are they? Find out inside!
Change is a good thing, right? American Idol is changing things up once again, and not just the judging panel. In a press interview yesterday, executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe revealed that there are some major changes in store for the new season. What are they?
According Lythgoe, the show went out and away from the audition cities to search for talent. “We’ve actually taken an American Idol bus out to the little towns this year, with a producer on board. That introduced new talent to us, I must say,” Nigel told reporters. Lythgoe also said that judge Randy Jackson paid surprise visits to certain contestants, those with: “friends and family who thought the person they nominated had a great voice but were a little too nervous to audition.”
But the changes don’t stop there. First, there will be no wild cards this season, and both Hollywood week and Vegas week will see changes: “We split the weeks up and gave a week to the boys, then a week to the girls. It allowed us to see the wood for the trees, if you will,” Nigel continued.
This means that we would only have a top 10, no top 11, 12, or 13 as in past years. Lythgoe also said that he would like to be a little more revealing during the eliminations, by letting viewers know who actually had the lowest number of votes, and ranking each of the finalists by votes. Whether or not they will actually do that, he did not say, he only said that they were working on it.
