Last night’s People’s Choice Awards proved victorious for Christina Aguilera in more ways than one. First of all, the star of reality show The Voice won (fittingly) the People’s Voice Award. But before she was handed the award, she proved that she was worthy of it by performing a rousing rendition of new single Blank Page.
Christina’s cleavage-baring outfits and over-the-top statements can be annoying, but then she starts singing and we remember why we’ve loved this pop diva so much of the years. Such was the case last night at the People’s Choice Awards, where Christina proved that her vocal chops are still in working order. Wearing a surprisingly modest (well, modest for Christina) blazer and black pants, Christina sang Blank Page, a new single that makes full use of the musician’s booming voice.
A fan later told Us Weekly that the performance was a very emotional one, explaining, “The song is about making mistakes and realizing you can’t go back but you can start over with a blank slate…Christina expresses herself through her songs and this one is very emotional.”
After Josh Duhamel handed Christina a trophy in recognition of winning the People’s Voice Award, Christina Aguilera gave a short acceptance speech: “Thank you for giving me this form of expression and letting me use my voice. It means so much to me. When I sing I believe it truly is the only time I can truly be myself. I find a home in music and I hope others can find a home in music as well.
