Randy Travis, American Idol guest star, is having quite a rough year so far. A la Lohan, Travis has been officially charged with driving under the influence. This is the first court hearing he will face, only to be seconded by a trial set in March accusing the “Honky Tonk Moon” singer of simple assault.
August 7th, 2012, was not a good day for Randy. After getting ridiculously drunk, Randy got behind the wheel of his truck, and promptly crashed it. A state trooper passing by saw a naked man lying on the side of the road, and when he stopped to offer assistance, was met with a naked Randy Travis and the odor of booze. The officer hauled Randy off to the slammer, and the next morning was graciously offered some scrubs to return home in.
Randy pled not guilty to the charges, however, he will still face a trial in the matter. When he was brought into jail, he had a blood alcohol level of .15. (State limit is .08) And this isn’t his first time. In February of last year he was also arrested for public intoxication. It seems Randy’s having some issues. Either way, his attorney is trying to make a deal, and is currently negotiating a plea. One of Randy’s lawyers released a statement, saying, “Randy has a lot of respect for law enforcement in Grayson. He’s cooperating fully. He recognizes his situation and he is tending to his personal matters. And we will decide between now and the end of the month whether he pleads not guilty or agrees to another plea that involves rehabilitation.”
The lawyer went on to talk about the changes Randy seems to be making in his life. “He has begun a personal revitalization program. He’s on a three-hour-a-day exercise regimen with new diet and exercise. He’s completely off of alcohol. He has recorded 31 new songs for an album that will be released in April. And he’s paying a lot of attention to his personal matters. We expect 2013 to be an extraordinary year for him. We’re also looking at a couple of movie scripts for him as well.”
His other court appearance involves Randy attacking his lady friend’s ex-husband outside of a church.
