The new season of American Idol starts tonight, and fans are ready to watch another new set of judges take on the auditions. In the past few seasons, we have seen so many changes to the cast, and we watched the show go on without the snarkiness of Simon Cowell. But could the show survive without the backbone of the series, aka Ryan Seacrest? One head honcho doesn’t think so!
Is it possible that American Idol could survive without Ryan Seacrest? While fans may think so, executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe is not so sure. Speaking to TMZ recently, Lythgoe told them: “Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He’s not on an earpiece or anything. He’s not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He’s really important.”
But while Lythgoe knows that the show did indeed go on without Simon Cowell, which many thought would be the demise of the hit singing competition, he also feels the show would struggle big time without Seacrest. Lythgoe added: “It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest.” Luckily, we don’t think Seacrest will be going anywhere, hopefully that is, nor are there any rumors of a departure.
However, Nigel brings up an interesting question – could the show possibly survive another huge loss? Honestly, after watching some of the other singing competitions and their ridiculously boring hosts (i.e. The Voice, The X Factor), it really makes us appreciate Ryan Seacrest, and the fun he brings to Idol.
Now we want to hear from our American Idol fans – could American Idol survive if Ryan Seacrest ever left? More importantly, would you continue watching without Ryan? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear from you. Comment below to share your thoughts with us!
