Kathy Griffin has already made clear her admiration for Jodie Foster via Twitter, but now, the star of Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D-List is elaborating on just what made Jodie’s hit speech so fantastic. Let’s just say that Kathy doesn’t agree with all the spectators who thought Jodie should have worked a bit on the timing.
During Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, Kathy Griffin was greatly impressed by Jodie Foster’s coming out speech. The comedian took a moment to tweet her reaction: ““I’m a big #JodieFoster fan, especially 2nite. Her speech tells LGBT youth: America has evolved, b proud of who u are!!” And when asked by a follower if Jodie’s speech had elicited tears, Kathy tweeted, “Yep, the Jodi [sic] Foster speech got me. Well done Lady.”
During a later interview with On The Red Carpet, Kathy continued to talk about Jodie’s speech and why it was so meaningful. According to Kathy, the coming out speech was “at once eloquent and she had a great sense of humor about it. It was sort of a non-announcement announcement.” Kathy added that she loves award shows in general, but unexpected moments such as Jodie’s speech are what she finds the most entertaining about any live show.
Other favorite moments of the Golden Globes? Well, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, of course! “I also loved when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler came out with the drinks and looked at Lena Dunham and said, ‘Oh, I’m so glad we got you through middle school’ after they lost. It’s great to have a sense of humor.”
