January 16, 2013 10:09 PM by Veronica Dudo

It’s war–Restaurant Wars that is on Top Chef: Seattle. A battle of the sexes plays out on the Bravo reality TV show when the cheftestants work to impress world-renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer. Kristen Kish and Sheldon Simeon must build their restaurants from scratch with only 48 hours and wow the judges with their concepts. Who will win the battle and a new car? Keep reading to find out!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Emmy and James Beard Award-winning series that has dished out lots of drama this season! The winning chef will receive $125,000 furnished by Healthy Choice, a feature in Food & Wine magazine, a showcase at the Annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen and will earn the title of “Top Chef.”

The contestants are Lizzie Binder from Napa; Joshua Valentine from Oklahoma City; Kristen Kish from Boston; Brooke Williamson from Los Angeles; Sheldon Simeon from Hawaii; Josie Smith-Malave from Miami; and Stefan Richter from Finland.

Legendary restaurateur Danny Meyer is a guest judge alongside Gail Simmons, head judge Tom Colicchio, Emeril Lagasse and host Padma Lakshmi.

It’s the men versus women as the contestants go into Restaurant Wars. The pressure is on for Kristen and Sheldon as they labor to make their dreams become a reality. Kristen has a very clear vision for her restaurant and works with Josie, Lizzie and Brooke. The concept for her restaurant is to recreate classic French dishes with some twists. Brooke runs front of the house service and the judges commend her on her skills. Things start out organized and smooth but soon time management becomes an issue for JosieĀ forcing KristenĀ to change one of her dishes. Kristen gets overwhelmed with the problems at one point saying, “I would prefer one of the dishwashers in place of Josie.” The broth Josie is supposed to prepare isn’t ready and can’t be served the way Kristen envisioned. Even the judges detect the change in the dish and are disappointed in the end result.

Meanwhile Sheldon who decides to serve cuisine rich in Philippine flavors works with Josh and Stefan. Things are good in the kitchen until there is a major back-up in the entrance of the restaurant. Stefan tries to hurry out some of the guests in the first seating to free up tables for the incoming patrons. Shortly after the judges are seated, Stefan is missing since he’s handeling other issues in the restaurant and doesn’t explain the last dish to the judges! The judges aren’t happy with the service but overall enjoy the food. While sitting at the table, Tom says that he learned a wise lesson from Danny: “People will go to a restaurant for food and return for hospitality.”

The judges select Sheldon as the winner of restaurant wars and he wins a brand new Toyota Avalon. Next, the judges come to the conclusion that Stefan’s service was awful as was Josie’s broth. When given an opportunity to talk about what happened, Josie says she followed what Kristen asked her to do and Kristen says she was the leader and accepts full responsibility for what happened. In the end, the judges eliminate Kristen and the rest of the chefs are in shock! Brooke reveals that she wishes Kristen would have placed the blame where the blame really belonged. However, Kristen says she understands the judges’ decision and can walk away knowing that she kept her integrity intact without stabbing anyone in the back.

Total B.S. you need new judges. Josey will throw anyone under the bus and you reward that. What a joke.

I agree with Rick. Josey is so underserving to be there. Her time management skills are a joke and even though Kristen took the blame she still got screwed by Josie. There’s no way Josie is winning TC. She brings out the worst in the other chefs around her and she needs to be eliminated next week.

Hey, Tom, what’s chances of your learning some table manners? Take smaller bites, and lift the food to your mouth rather than keep your arm on the table and lower your body to the forkful.

Kristen was one of the best chefs in the group. That should have been obvious to all the judges…Gail Simmons was the only one who understood that she, not Josie, deserved to be in the finals. Josie doesn’t have the personality, time management or cooking skills to be a Top Chef…let’s get real. I have a feeling Tom will continue awarding her Last Chance Kitchen just to ensure she’s in the finals anyway. One way to correct his mistake.
