Last night’s American Idol premiere went off without a hitch. And while we saw 41 artists from the New York City auditions advance to the Hollywood round, all eyes were on judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey as the beginning of their feud unfolded. What started as comments over accessories quickly turned to name-calling. Keep reading for more details.
We all know divas will be divas. They can’t help it, right? And Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey didn’t disappoint. According to FOX, the two argued over just about everything, starting with Minaj’s plumed majorette hat, an accessory Carey didn’t think would be allowed. “We can have accessories? I didn’t know that was allowed,” Carey pouted and then made comments about bringing her dog to work with her.
But then things turned a little ugly when Carey bragged about her song, “All I Want for Christmas” still being number one after seventeen years. Minaj said, “Ooh, she’s a b*tch. She’s a b*tch. She’s a b*tch” under her breath.
But Carey still heard her and was quick to respond. “If you called me something that starts with a “B” and ends with an “itch” – I rebuke it!” Carey said.
And the drama didn’t stop there. The divas also sparred over references to the movie, “Mean Girls” when Carey prodded Minaj to get it right. But when they got down to the business of judging talent, the two often agreed.
Tonight Idol heads to Chicago for more auditions. What will happen next between Minaj and Carey? We can only imagine…but it’s sure to be more drama.
What do you think of the mounting tension between Minaj and Carey? Did their bickering seem light and playful, just business as usual among divas? Or do you think it was just a precursor of what’s yet to come? And who do you think was the better judge, Mariah or Nicki? Post a comment and let us know.
