Uli Sounds Off About Project Runway All Stars Finale Elimination

January 18, 2013 12:00 PM by Donna W. Martin

Uli was a strong competitor throughout Project Runway All Stars but she failed to win the competition when faux fur embellishments made her mini collection look inexpensive. What did Uli think about placing second runner up? Take the jump to find out.

According to Lifetime, at the end of the day, Uli was just glad it was over. “I am so relieved the show is over,” she said. “Last week was so intense – putting all this together in such a short time…finally it’s over.”

She admits she was excited to see her work hit the runway. “When I see all my [models], I’m really, really happy; it’s exactly what I pictured. There’s many pieces that go into it and they all have to fit and sit perfectly. I love how it all came together, the music, the models, the hair and makeup, the clothes. The whole show, I think, works together very well – almost better than I expected.”

“My second look is my least strong look but it goes in with the collection, very Uli but different enough than what I’ve done during the season so I’m very pleased.”

But Uli said she knew she was in trouble when the judges critiqued her collection. “When I get my critique, I know I’m definitely not the winner.” She explains, “There was too much negative so I know I’m not going to [win] and I’m probably not going to be second. But I love what I put out there and it’s really a taste thing. I think we all knew who [was going to] win this just by track record and I don’t think there’s a big surprise there.”

“I don’t have any regrets. The only thing you should regret [are] things you didn’t do. I did everything I could do. I’m really happy with what I put out and I think there’s people out there who love what I did. Some people [may not] agree with what I did but that’s just the way of life. You have to please you first and be true to yourself and put out there what you want to show and what you are about.”

She said she thinks the experience is really going to help her career in the future and she’s “absolutely happy” with the way she placed in the competition.

Uli’s style is not for everyone. She is an amazing designer, but her market audience is maybe more limited. I thought she should have placed second. I would have put Anthony Ryan last based on last night’s performance. His first dress was fine. His last dress was atrocious and poorly made. The ones in between looked like he had just used the same pattern. They were boring. However, the way the judges had gushed over him all season, I knew going in he would be the winner. No surprise.

She should have won. Hers was by far the best collection.

Uli had hands-down the best collection on the runway. What a show! Anthony Ryan’s was, how have I heard it put by the judges, “something I’ve seen before”. But he’s won so many times over the season and at the end, it’s about likeability on the judges part, so you can see the reasoning behind the choice. Hope we see Uli in the future, awesome designs.

Uli was my favorite during this season and during her original PR season.

Uli should have won. Her collection had the most imagination, style, beauty and variety. I hope she continues designing. Plus she was such a lovely human being throughout the competition – she was never snarky or unkind to other competitors.

Uli would have had this in the bag with the other set of judges. Emilio was great too, except for 1 dress that was kinda off, but bot surpassed the ‘winner’. They need to choose better judges next season.
