The new season of American Idol started last week, and while some folks are fixated on the new judges, others are actually interested in the contestants. In fact, American Idol alum, Colton Dixon even wanted to share his advice for the hopefuls. What did he have to say?
Who can forget American Idol alum Colton Dixon? The season 11 alum created a stir last year when he refused to tone down his religious beliefs for the sake of winning. While he did not win, he did end up in seventh place, and his new album is about to be released (on the 29th), so he does know a thing or two about competing on the show.
In a new radio interview, Colton had some advice for the season 12 contestants: “Always be yourself. Some of us learn that the hard way. It’s healthy to challenge yourself, don’t get me wrong it’s a great thing. It’s always smart to stay true to your roots. That’s what got you there in the first place. The judges saw that in you. So breaking that up would be a mistake in my opinion.”
In the interview, on Radio.com, Dixon stressed the importance of remaining true to yourself. He insists that while everyone tries to guide the contestants in the right direction, they should never stray too far from their roots. Now, we’ll have to wait and see if any of the season 12 contestants follow that advice.
