Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, former American Idol guest star Beyonce Knowles will indeed be singing the National Anthem at the end of President Obama’s inauguration ceremony. Between this performance, a spot on the cover of GQ, an upcoming Super Bowl performance and a new Destiny’s Child album, it looks like 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for Beyonce!
President Obama has long been a fan of Beyonce Knowles, so it was no big surprise when the singer was selected for the honor of singing the National Anthem during this year’s inauguration ceremony. Having been a part of Obama’s first inauguration (singing Etta James’ At Last during the President’s first dance with First Lady Michelle Obama), Beyonce was an obvious choice. But this previous inaugural experience still isn’t enough to erase the nerves! Beyonce confessed to Zap2It, “I know [the National Anthem] but it is the type of thing doesn’t matter how many times you sing it. And the biggest fear is making sure you sing it right, and sing it correctly.”
Despite her nervousness, Beyonce really is excited to take part in such a historic occasion, especially as it coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. “Every time I am overworked and in a stressful situation, I always think about moments like this. And it makes everything worth while. My father grew up in Alabama and my father was escorted to school with security guards. He was one of the few African-Americans in school. There is so much history that we have overcome. And we are growing so much. It is so beautiful that I can make my family and my family’s legacy proud and it is a huge opportunity for me.”
We’re glad that Beyonce is able to take part in such a special celebration! And we know her voice will be amazing as usual!
