Nobody can deny that Beyonce’s inauguration rendition of the National Anthem sounded amazing. But was she singing live? While the possibility of a lip-syncing Beyonce has some fans upset, American Idol alums Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler don’t see what all the fuss is about.
It’s always a bit of a disappointment to learn that an otherwise excellent live performance was, in fact, lip-synced. Such was the case when rumors surfaced surrounding Beyonce’s inauguration performance. But according to fellow diva Jennifer Lopez, nobody should be shocked at the prospect of Beyonce lip-syncing to a pre-recorded version of the Star Spangled Banner. During a recent interview with Jon Stewart, JLo explained, “Sometimes it happens when you are in certain stadiums and certain venues and things, they do pre-record stuff because you’re going to have that terrible slapback.”
According to Jennifer Lopez, lip-syncing is a lot more common than audience members might expect. Certain conditions simply are not conducive to live singing. JLo also pointed out that Whitney Houston’s beloved rendition of the National Anthem had also been pre-recorded prior to the 1991 Super Bowl. Even so, “everybody loved it…it became a huge hit.”
Okay, despite all the Beyonce backlash, there might be a valid reason for lip-syncing. The venue may not have been ideal and perhaps the weather played a role in the decision. But according to Steven Tyler, none of this really matters — Beyonce is allowed to do whatever she damn well pleases. “Beyonce’s so hot she can do anything. Let’s just get real.”
Are you disappointed to learn of Beyonce’s lip-syncing at President Obama’s inauguration? Or do you think that this is an acceptable practice? Sound off in the comments section below!
