Remember way back when Lindsay Lohan was still producing hit movies? To this day, her biggest success has been Mean Girls, and by the looks of it, the hit teen movie will be returning as a musical! Tina Fey has announced plans to develop a Broadway version of Mean Girls, and with any luck, she’ll be able to convince American Idol judge Mariah Carey to join the cast!
Mean Girls…that guilty pleasure of women (and, we suspect, some men) across the nation. If you’ve been suffering from serious Cady and Regina withdrawal symptoms, you’re in luck! Screenplay writer Tina Fey recently revealed that a new and improved version of the hit movie is in the works. Best of all, it will be staged as a live musical!
During a quick chat with E! News, Tina revealed, “I’m trying to develop [the Mean Girls musical] with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount’s onboard.” Tina added that she’d love to see Mariah Carey as a part of the musical’s cast, mentioning an American Idol moment in which Mariah objected to being made out as a Regina George type of villain. While Mariah isn’t necessarily a perfect fit for, say, Cady or Regina, Tina does think she’d be amazing as Regina’s “cool” mom! When asked about Mariah’s love of Mean Girls, Tina suggested, “Maybe she can play Amy Poehler’s part in the musical.”
We’re assuming that Lindsay Lohan will not be taking part in the new version of Mean Girls. Not only is her career at a standstill, the former Cady Heron definitely lacks the pipes for the main role in a musical. She revealed as much during an ill-fated attempt at a music career back in 2004. But we think it would be pretty cool if either Amanda Seyfriend or Rachel McAdams returned for a staged version of the movie!
Would you like to see a musical version of Mean Girls? And if so, do you have any favorites in mind for the main roles? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!
