Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti recently announced their divorce, much to the disappointment of legions of devoted fans. Some are wondering if Ashley’s political aspirations led to the separation, while others are unsure as to whether the Who Do You Think You Are? star will want to launch an election campaign in the midst of a messy divorce. Could Ashley and Dario’s divorce spell trouble for incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell?
With a lifespan of eleven years, Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti’s marriage was certainly long by celebrity standards. But for some unknown, the two have decided to call it quits. It does look like this divorce will be less of a train wreck than the typical celebrity battle (ahem, Bethanny Frankel). Not only are Ashley and Dario parting on good terms, they’re planning on remaining close friends, or as Ashley mentioned in a recent Twitter post, “family forever @dariofranchitti.”
Now, the big question is, will Ashley continue her rumored bid for the United States Senate? A few fans suspect that the actress will stay away from politics for now, as it’s not particularly easy to deal with a first election bid and a divorce at the same time. But others feel that the divorce will free Ashley up, allowing her to pursue the campaign head-on. We’re sure the Republican camp would prefer the latter scenario, as incumbent Mitch McConnell’s supporters have made it clear that they’re all for Ashley running for Senate. Ashley’s views tend to be somewhat more liberal than those of establishment Kentucky Democrats and Republicans hope that this campaign move to the left would drive centrists away, leading to an easy win for McConnell.
Do you think Ashley Judd’s divorce will impact the election? Should she be running in the first place? Sound off in the comments section below!
