Recently, we learned that Kara DioGuardi, who spent years struggling with infertility and failed IVF attempts, would be welcoming a baby via surrogate. Now, the former American Idol judge and her husband, Mike McCuddy have welcomed the arrival of their baby boy! Details inside…
Kara DioGuardi revealed recently that she and her husband, Mike McCuddy took the surrogate route to fulfill their dreams of parenthood, after several years of struggling with infertility and miscarriages.
The baby boy was due in February, but a rep for Kara DioGuardi has confirmed to People Magazine that the couple’s surrogate gave birth yesterday. According to the rep, Greyson James Carroll McCuddy was born at 1:01 p.m. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 10 oz. and measured almost 21 inches long. The couple chose the name Carroll as one of the baby’s middle names to honor DioGuardi’s late mother.
DioGuardi, who researched many options, including adoption, before deciding on a surrogate, gushed of her friend (the surrogate) prior to the birth: “I’ve got two people on my mind…her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift.”
DioGuardi wrote about her fertility struggles in her 2011 memoir, A Helluva a High Note, where she revealed that she underwent 3 unsuccessful IVF treatments during her stint on Idol, which is ultimately why she left the show. “I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV,” Kara wrote.
