Randy Travis has been caught up in the “Storms of Life”, and forgot his umbrella. The American Idol guest star has pleaded guilty to drunk driving after appearing in court over an incident earlier this summer. He’s been sentenced and rehab is listed as part of his punishment. What did he say? Keep reading for the details!
Back in August, Randy Travis had a little too much of the good stuff. He got behind the wheel of his trans-am, and ended up crashing through a few barricades in a construction zone near Tioga, Texas-about 60 miles away from his home. It’s unclear what happened after his vehicle came to rest, but authorities found the singer naked on the side of the road. Randy was belligerent and out of control. They recorded his blood alcohol level as .21-that’s almost three times the legal limit.
During sentencing on Thursday, Travis pleaded guilty. In the plea agreement, Randy agreed to enter into two years probation, a fee of $2,000, and a 30 day rehab stay. Randy is also set to complete 100 hours of community service and must have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he drives while on probation .If he does not complete the probation, he’ll find himself behind bars. It’s a pretty stiff punishment for a first time offense, but Randy seems sincere about his commitment to getting healthy.
As Travis exited the courthouse, he thanked his supporters and law enforcement, saying he was grateful for “Obviously taking care of me that night.” He also added that he was “Glad it was behind him.”
The Grayson County District Attorney was also pleased with the outcome, saying, “First time DWI defendants are rarely forced into in-patient treatment,” Brown said in a news release. “He will be unable to leave the facility for 30 days. His fine and community service requirements are more than double what is usually received, and his probation term is the maximum available, and longer than the usual 18 months. All of that is appropriate in light of his behavior with the officers.”
