Despite Michelle Williams’ insistence that rumors of a Destiny’s Child reunion were “not confirmed,” the hot girl group did reunite for yesterday’s Super Bowl halftime performance. And with onetime American Idol guest Beyonce and her go-to girls Michelle and Kelly sounding amazing, we can only assume great things are to come in the soon-to-be-released Destiny’s Child album!
There were plenty of headline grabbing moments at last night’s Super Bowl, including a long blackout, amazing plays from Joe Flacco and a valiant comeback effort from the 49ers. But our favorite moment occurred during Beyonce’s halftime show, when the pop diva was joined by the rest of Destiny’s Child. We weren’t expecting Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland to show up, seeing as Michelle had previously put an end to Destiny’s Child Super Bowl rumors with the following statement: “I hate to disappoint the people and tell them that it’s not true.”
We’re not sure if Michelle really wasn’t planning on joining Beyonce at that point or if she was simply trying to keep a secret. Either way, it was definitely exciting to see her and Kelly take the stage alongside Beyonce! The trio performed two classic Destiny’s Child songs — Independent Woman and Bootylicious — before moving on to a hip-shaking rendition of Beyonce’s hit Single Ladies. And that’s it. Fans had been hoping that the three ladies would perform new hit Nuclear, but unfortunately, the group stuck with the tried and true songs. No worries though — we’ll be seeing plenty of Destiny’s Child in the near future!
