Top Chef Seattle Recap: King Of The King Crabs

Meet the fab four! It’s been a long road for the remaining cheftestants on Bravo’s hit reality TV series, Top Chef: Seattle. The final four chefs sailed to Alaska on a Celebrity cruise ship and will now battle it out on land. This week, the contestants cook with some of Alaska’s finest ingredients: salmon and crabs. Sean Brock is the special guest judge. Keep reading for all of the juicy details!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Emmy and James Beard Award-winning series that has dished out lots of drama this season! The winning chef will receive $125,000 furnished by Healthy Choice, a feature in Food & Wine magazine, a showcase at the Annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen and will earn the title of “Top Chef.”

The contestants are Lizzie Binder from Napa; Joshua Valentine from Oklahoma City; Brooke Williamson from Los Angeles and Sheldon Simeon from Hawaii.

It’s been an interesting season so far with some fan favorites going home! However, thanks to Top Chef Last Kitchen the eliminated chefs get another chance to return to the reality TV show for the finale.

For the Quickfire challenge the cheftestants are tasked this week with putting their own unique spin on Alaskan Crab. The chefs only have 30 minutes to prepare their dishes. Sheldon is selected as the Quickfire Challenge winner with his miso-inspired crab soup and pine smoked asparagus. Much to his delight he wins $5,000.

Keeping to Alaska’s culinary roots, the chefs celebrate the areas favorite ingredients: salmon and sourdough bread for the Elimination Challenge. In Juneau, Alaska the chefs work to impress the judges as well as the locals with their take on the salmon and sourdough bread.

Host Padma Lakshmi and guest judge Sean Brock join Emeril Lagasse, Hugh Acheson, Gail Simmons and head judge Tom Coliccio. After tasting the dishes, the judges deliberate and must pick a winner and send someone packing. Unanimously, Brooke is selected as the winner and gets a trip for two to Costs Rica! Now, for the hard part–one chef will be eliminated. The judges say that Lizzie made a bland salmon sandwich and they are shocked she didn’t taste her dish before serving it. As for Sheldon, the judges believe that his pea soup was good but his sourdough was spongy and salmon was bitter. In the end, the judges decide to eliminate Lizzie Binder. But, she’s not completely out of the competition just yet. She will get a second chance when she face’s off against Kristen in Top Chef’s Last Chance Kitchen.

    This series lost into a critical review is not since these sous chefs all seem to loose onto they’re place on competion circle. They’ve allowed favorites and who continue thru series on in memory ,but add scores to circle comp.as these still keep on show as cooks! Your choices in awards to certain few aren’t correct in fairness! Professional chefs to throw off in circles to keep them in fav’s not really gourmet style cooks!
