When the cast of Survivor: Caramoan — Fans Vs. Favorites was first announced, CBS declared that the Feb. 13 premiere would be a massive two-hour event. Awesome news, right? Two full hours of the biggest reality battle on television! Not anymore. Sadly, the network has decided to trim the 26th season’s debut by 30 minutes and will be filling the 9:30-10 p.m. EST slot by rerunning an episode of an entirely different show.
Earlier this week, CBS surprisingly announced that Survivor: Caramoan — Fans Vs. Favorites would be slimmed down to 90 minutes. The reason? None was given. CBS simply altered their initial cast-announcement press release from several weeks back with the following words: “Editor’s note: This release has been updated to reflect the premiere’s new 90-minute running time. Special 90-Minute Season Premiere Wednesday, Feb. 13 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT).”
CBS will be filling that vacant 30 minute slot by an old episode of their hit nerdy comedy The Big Bang Theory. The episode, titled “The Habitation Configuration,” had an initial airdate on Nov. 8, 2012.
Bummer. I know.
What are your thoughts on the network’s decision to trim 30 minutes off the premiere episode? Do you think the move is OK because two hours is too long or are you disappointed the premiere has been trimmed? Of the favorites tribe, which castaway are you most excited to see returning? Of the fans tribe, which castaway do you think will fare the best? In the end, are you rooting for a fan or a favorite to win the $1 million grand prize? Sound off and leave a comment below!
