It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been a year since Whitney Houston passed away. On this first anniversary, fans remember the many ways in which they were influenced by Whitney’s amazing voice and kind soul. American Idol alum Jordin Sparks joined in by reminiscing about the singing legend.
Jordin Spark lists a number of talented individuals and bands as her musical inspirations, but the American Idol star feels that Whitney Houston had the greatest impact on her decision to pursue music as a career. During a pre-party for this year’s Grammy Awards, Jordin explained why she loves Whitney’s music so much and what an impact the news of her death had on last year’s Grammy Awards. “Last year it was definitely very crazy because Whitney passed. I was on my way here when I got the news and it was very crazy.” Jordin adds that speaking about Whitney in the immediate aftermath of her death was particularly difficult. “I had nothing to say, there were no words. But it was really scary because as soon as it happened I just remember my publicist, she got two phones, they just started going off and it was everybody calling to ask me, to talk and I had just found out. I didn’t even have time to process it and I was like, ‘I have nothing to say, it’s not my place to say anything,’ and maybe if I feel a little better and it’s in the right place at the right time, then maybe I’ll do that.”
The chaos related to last year’s Grammy Awards was almost enough to convince Jordin not to attend in 2013. “I went back and forth on whether I was gonna be here tonight, but I know that she would want us all to have a good time and to be happy and to celebrate music because she loved it. So, I’m honoring her in that way by being here because she was a part of this for so long.”
And we’re sure Whitney would have loved to se Jordin enjoying herself at the 2013 Grammy Awards!
