Chris Kyle of Stars Earn Stripes was laid to rest at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin following a two-hour memorial service at the Cowboys Stadium. Keep reading for more details.
According to CBS, nearly 7,000 people attended Kyle’s memorial service on Monday with dozens of military personnel and others seated near the coffin, which was placed at midfield near the Dallas Cowboys’ star.
Kyle’s widow, Taya delivered a heartfelt eulogy saying, “Chris, there isn’t enough time to tell you everything you mean to me and everything you taught me. I know you had no idea you were teaching me but there is something on God and I have known for a long time,” she said. “God worked through you to make into the woman I am supposed to be. I almost feel sorry for you babe because God knew it would take the toughest and softest hearted man on earth to get a hard- headed, cynical, hard-loving woman like me to see what God needed me to see, and he chose you for the job.”
Taya went on to list the things Chris had taught her throughout their marriage such as “innocent reckless love without abandon, fear into faith, and how to raise children with love and softness.”
Following the eulogy, country singer, Randy Travis sang two songs, “Whisper My Name,” which held special meaning for Chris and Taya and “Amazing Grace.”
Bagpipers played as military personnel carried Kyle’s coffin out of the stadium.
The hour-long funeral service was held on Tuesday following a 200-mile procession from the Dallas area to Arlington. An estimated 200 Patriot Guard Riders escorted Kyle’s body to his final resting place. According to The Dallas Morning News, along the route, mourners waved flags up and down the interstate and from overpasses.
Kyle’s final resting place is in the Texas State Cemetery, which is reserved for Texas politicians, honored military members and other public figures.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris’s family and friends.
