Jeff Probst Talk Show Canceled On Same Day Survivor: Caramoan Premieres
February 13, 2013 09:36 PM by Ryan Haidet

The longtime host of Survivor didn’t survive the talk show circuit very long. Sadly, Jeff Probst has been voted off chatter island. It just so happens that the Jeff Probst Show was canceled on the same day that Survivor: Caramoan — Fans Vs. Favorites, the show’s 26th season, premiered. What went wrong? The details are inside…
The short-lived show first jumped to the screen with its debut episode on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 — and it had trouble generating ratings from the start. The main problem? It began amid a swirl of brand-new talk shows hosted by the likes of Katie Couric, Steve Harvey and Ricki Lake (her show has also already been canned). Ever heard the saying that there’s too many fish in the sea? Definitely the case here.
Refusing to lay down and die before it was officially canceled, Probst’s show recently started adding special co-hosts, including Survivor: Philippines castaway Lisa Whelchel, to add discussion to the first few segments. It is very similar to the vibe created by “Live! With Kelly and Michael.” And I actually think this addition was a major improvement.
Although the show has been canceled by CBS Television Distribution, it will continue through the remainder of the first season.
When I was in LA for the Survivor: Philippines finale last December, I attended a Thursday morning taping of the show. I’m glad I did. While the episode we witnessed wasn’t particularly exciting, it was a cool experience nonetheless. I even had the chance to meet up with him after the show to chat about Survivor and snag some autographs (see the top photo!)

What are your thoughts on the news of the show’s cancellation? Did you ever watch it? Did you have the chance to attend a taping in studio? Sound off and leave a comment below!

I really liked the show, but I’m not surprised it never got its footing. Here in my town it was on a kind of obscure channel.

Jeff Probst’s appeal, as the host of Survivor, should’ve never entered the talk-show business. The likes of Letterman, etc. prove that anyone can host a talk show. For Probst to prostitute his charm in the way he did is disgusting, in my opinion. I pity his ill-founded ambition.

I am really sorry the show got cancelled. Any way to get someone to change their minds or can someone else pick up the show. One of the better shows on TV.
