Aleksandra Dubrovskaya, 23, a model originally from Russia who has been living in New York for the past four years was the first contestant to be eliminated from Oxygen’s new show, The Face, airing on Tuesdays at 9/8c. In an interview with reporters, Aleksandra talked about her time on the show, her elimination, and her plans for the future. Keep reading to see what she had to say.
Question: Thinking back to when you first arrived on the show, when you first began, how different were your expectations from what the reality was?
Aleksandra: It was totally different because it looks fun on TV and stuff but it’s not. It’s a lot of work and as soon as we arrived to the hotel they took all of our like cell phones, computers, our wallets, credit cards, debit cards, and you cannot leave the hotel room. You have to be there all day long and you cannot talk to other people that are not a contestant. And it was very, very difficult; I love to talk.
Question: What do you think is the most important thing you learned from the time you spent on the show?
Aleksandra: The most important thing I learned is how to be patient because it’s a lot of time you’re just sitting and waiting, waiting, waiting on set. You walkie-talkie so you cannot talk and it was really hard for me. And I learned to be patient, to wait hours and hours. You get there on the set at 7 a.m. and you’re waiting mostly all day for shooting a little part.
Question: What’s next for you?
Aleksandra: I might do another TV show, another reality show but I think you have to wait a certain time. I’m still working. I’m now working and I’m now doing modeling. I am now in Miami working but I have an agency in Russia and I am working also in New York. I have an agency in New York so I am continuing to do modeling since I am not so old yet and we will see what happens next. Maybe I do another reality show.
Question: If you could do things over, what would you change?
Aleksandra: I maybe change the coach, you know, maybe go to Karolina’s team. I think we would maybe understand each other more. And you never know, if you were on a different team what would really be next because I think Karolina, she let the people do…the models do what they want to do to experience themselves. And Naomi, she does what she wants – what she says to do. When we pick an outfit, she changes it all around like she wants. And Karolina, she let them pick more to experience themselves, which is nicer. So maybe if I picked a different coach it would be a different story but you don’t know. It’s life so…
Question: What did you think about Naomi choosing to put you up for elimination and how did that make you feel?
Aleksandra: It didn’t feel that good because I don’t think I am like the weakest from the team, to be honest. And I am looking a different look. I’m experienced and I don’t know why she picked me for elimination but that’s her choice you know so…Maybe she didn’t think they were going to eliminate me, that’s the thing.
Question: What surprised you most with the model mentors when you met them first, like with Coco and Karolina and Naomi?
Aleksandra: The first expression, I was really a little bit shy because I had never saw them in real life. They are all so beautiful, amazing models and celebrities. So for me, I was very grateful to meet them and just see them in real life, how they look because I just saw them before on TV. So for me, I am still very grateful for the show, for the opportunity.
Question: And was it frustrating to kind of hear that – you know when Naomi was saying you weren’t necessarily giving it your all?
Aleksandra: She said maybe I don’t understand her since I speak a different language. English is not my first language but I understand what she was saying.
Question: While on the show, did you build any relationships with the other contestants?
Aleksandra: With the girls, yes.
Question: Who did you build close relationships with and who did you think was your biggest competition?
Aleksandra: I am now friends with Brittany. She’s a very nice girl and we basically all of the girls are friends. We are on Facebook now and we text each other and another girl told me if you anytime want to come to L.A., you can stay with me for me and I am the same way, any of you girls want to come to New York they can stay with me. We became close friends because we were 24/7 together.
Question: Who would you say was your biggest competition?
Aleksandra: On the show, Margaux. I would think so because she has a style. She is very fashionable, she’s skinny, she looks like a model and she gave some form to different types of looks.
