Recently we learned Lady Gaga was unable to walk and had to postpone four shows. But as it turns out, her condition is much more serious and will require surgery to correct. As a result, the So You Think You Can Dance guest judge has been forced to cancel the remaining shows in her Born This Way Ball Tour. Keep reading for more details.
“I hid [the injury] from my staff; I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans. However after last night’s performance I could not walk and still can’t,” Gaga tweeted following a performance in Montreal on Monday. “I’m on crutches and occasionally using a wheelchair, but I’m okay, I promise.”
On Tuesday, Gaga described her injury as synovitis, which is a severe inflammation of joints and said she would have to postpone several shows. “I’ve been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, over the past month it has worsened,” she tweeted. “I’ve been praying it would heal.”
However, According to CNN, Live Nation Global Touring issued an update regarding Gaga’s condition on Wednesday morning and it’s more serious than was originally thought. “After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip,” which was caused by strenuous repetitive movements. “She will need surgery to repair the problem followed by strict down time to recover. This unfortunately will force her to cancel the tour so she can heal.”
There are twenty-one dates through March 20 remaining in the tour. Live Nation said fans could obtain refunds for the cancelled shows at point of purchase starting on Thursday.
