Lady Gaga announced via Twitter earlier this week that she was cancelling shows due to joint pain. While fans were completely disappointed, they are in for a long time without Mother Monster. Turns out the So You Think You Can Dance guest star is having surgery! What for? Keep reading for the details!
Lady Gaga hated to cancel shows scheduled for later this month, but was given no option after joint pain left her unable to walk. In an apology to her fans, she said, “I hid [the injury] from my staff; I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans. However after last night’s performance I could not walk and still can’t. I’m on crutches and occasionally using a wheelchair, but I’m okay, I promise.”
Gaga admitted that the injury was due to synovitis, which is a severe inflammation of joints, but it appears that the injury may be much more serious-it actually will require surgery. The injury Lady Gaga has is a hip labral tear. There are two types of labral tears-a degenerative tear and a traumatic tear. Gaga’s is a degenerative tear. This tear is the worse of the two types, and the fact that Lady Gaga hid the injury without seeking treatment made the condition much worse. Lady Gaga’s hip has put up a good fight, however her tour schedule and dance routines ultimately caused the injury. The labral tear is a sign of hip arthritis, which can have crippling effects. Lady Gaga should’ve spoken up sooner, as many times the injury can be arrested with anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, cortisone injections, and rest. However, Gaga will have to endure surgery and a 4-6 month rehabilitation. This unfortunate news has caused the cancellation of the remaining 21 shows lined up for the Born This Way Ball Tour.
We wish Lady Gaga all the best for her upcoming surgery and recuperation!
